However, they definitely COULD be used in this sense. So perhaps not a direct microfinance player, but definitely an outlying competitor?

I had yet to run across these two companies and greatly appreciate you bringing them to my attention!

Thanks.
Rachel

Re: Microfinance Breakdown (DRAFT)

Not sure if it was on the map - I didn't see a search function. However, would you consider crowd-sourced funding from like Prosper.com or Zopa.com as micro-finance? While not explicitly limited to small amounts there's nothing stopping a person from only getting a small loan from either service.

Re: Microfinance Breakdown (DRAFT)

Thanks for this comment. I co-founded a company a couple of years ago focused on developing a HPV preventive with technology we've licensed from the University of Utah. We've raised over $300,000 friends/family and were recently awarded a Centers of Excellence Grant and a VIP grant from the U. We are now gearing up to raise funding from angels/ventures. I would love to meet with you to pick your brain related to our strategy and contacts you may have that could be helpful. If you are interested, of course. We are also in discussions with a major India group for its humanitarian utility.

My email is jherrin@viropan.com. I still don't have Q2 data as that will be released at month's end, but I thought I would include this blurb in case of interest to any of you readers.

" There are only 16 VC-backed companies left in IPO registration. This includes LogMeIn, which is road-showing and expects to price within the next few weeks. I know P&L is king -- and LogMeIn's is great -- but I also wonder if a successful LogMeIn IPO could have broader ramifications.

After all, it's a techie type of tech deal, rather than a consumer type of tech deal (i.e., OpenTable). A majority of venture deals in the IT sector belong to the former class, but investors have been beaten down by talk that the public markets don't love them anymore. Perhaps LogMeIn could serve as an emboldening flirtation."

Re: The Zen of the Zero Inbox

Gabe,
Ah, this is a great tip. Tim, explains it nice on his ReSaDoTh post as "If someone needs a two-line answer to a question, send that e-mail, archive the question, and be done with it. If an e-mail requires more talk than that, file it under “Say” for the moment, because you should put a higher priority on . . ."
Hope that helps. I manage to keep mine consistently below about 5-10 emails so not too shabby. It rarely ever makes to zero however.

I'm definitely a big believer in having access to email by mobile also - I found by having it near to me whenever I wanted to check, or had a moment to spare, actually took some of the stress out of checking my inbox (I'm sure we all know the moment of holding your breath before your inbox opens up....).
Like you, I swear by filters. For some emails (mailing list, etc.), I treat them like an RSS feed - read them if I have time, or else just delete!

Re: The Zen of the Zero Inbox

MJ,
Ha ha... if I get bored I will swing through Zions Park to organize your email and pics. =)

Keep me posted with your zero inbox progress.
Rach

Re: The Zen of the Zero Inbox

Sterling,
Thanks for stopping by the blog and for commenting.
